Been a while since I last wrote. I trust this finds you in the very best. Not been idle – been finally putting some real work and getting some inroads into that book I’ve been planning to write for some time now. Not the easiest thing to do and it takes quite a commitment but hey, what’s worthwhile that doesn’t right?

Anyway, I’m not sure if you’ve managed to check out Brene Brown’s “The Power of Vulnerability” TED talk but it’s one of my favourites.

If you’re into going through a period of change, or sometimes struggle to deal with criticism or setbacks or could just do with an inspiring “pick me up”, I think you’ll find the 20 minutes or so well worth it ->

The key messages I took from this were (any “emphasis” I’ve made below is mine):

  • “The only difference between people who have a sense of worthiness and those who don’t is belief. The people who have a strong sense of love and belonging believe they are worthy of love and belonging.”
  • “These folks had the courage to be imperfect. They had the compassion to be kind to themselves first and then to others. We cannot practice compassion with others if we do not practice with ourselves first”
  • “They had connection as a result of authenticity. They were willing to let go of who they think they should be in order to be who they were and you absolutely have to do that for connection”
  • They embraced vulnerability. They believe that what made them vulnerable made them beautiful. The willingness to say I love you first. The willingness to do something when there are no guarantees. The willingness to invest in a relationship that may or may not work out”

Know that you are unlike any other in this universe. Embrace your gifts and your imperfections, knowing that that makes you perfect because if we had no room to grow, we’d start to diminish. Love who you are and know that you can be even better!

Make this the very best day you deserve!
